Most of the initial viewers of “Dune 2” were found to be adults. The film “Dune: Part Two,” which is a loose adaptation of Frank Herbert’s cult novel, struggled to attract a significant number of young viewers for a strong opening in its home country.

According to sociological studies, the overwhelming majority of attendees at premiere screenings in North America—77 percent—were over 25 years old, with over 53 percent being men aged 25 and older. Women over 25 made up 24 percent of the audience for “Dune 2,” making it the second-largest group of viewers, followed by men under 25 (15%) and women under 25 (8%).

It is noted that only premium theater chains in the United States were nearly sold out on the first weekend, while regular theaters had many empty seats.

Warner Bros. reported that “Dune 2” grossed $12 million at screenings before its wide release, thus surpassing the low-budget adaptation of the video game “Five Nights at Freddy’s” ($10.3 million). However, it is worth noting that Warner Bros. employed a tactic by adding two million dollars earned by “Dune: Part Two” from early fan screenings in February.

By the end of the first weekend, the sequel could collect around $80 million in North America.
